1 to 5 June, Porto

Porto, paced properly.

A five-day plan with late dinners, snack stops, river views, and space for the parts of Porto you will want to linger over.

  • No pork or beef
  • One seafood eater
  • One non-seafood eater
  • Do not overpack Day 4
Porto rooftops and the Douro river in warm evening light
Arrive late. Start easy. The first night is only for checking in, eating something simple, and not pretending you have energy for a full itinerary.
20:25

Landing at Porto Airport Transfer, check in, freshen up, then head to Aliados if you still want food.

How the days are stacked

Tuesday is the big city day. Wednesday belongs to the Douro. Thursday is deliberately softer: gardens, a market lunch, the beach, and an early final dinner.

Food rule to repeat when booking

Say that you do not eat pork or beef. For the Douro tour, message the provider before the day so lunch is not a surprise.

Não comemos porco nem vaca.
Supermarket timing

Skip it on arrival night. Go on Tuesday morning around Bolhão or Sá da Bandeira and buy enough water and snacks for the Douro day.

Late dinners need a quick check

Thamel at 22:30 should be confirmed with the restaurant, especially the kitchen timing. Muti is tighter because the Douro tour can run late.

Tuesday carries most of the walking, so wear the comfortable shoes. Wednesday is not the night for ambitious after-dinner plans. Thursday only works if Foz does not swallow the whole afternoon.

Airport, tiles, river, valley, beach, airport.

The plan has one heavy city day, one guided valley day, and one softer final day. If anything has to slip, let it be a shop stop, not a booking.

20:25

Land at Porto Airport

Head straight to the accommodation. By the time bags, transfer, check-in, and a quick freshen up are done, the evening will already be late.

21:45

Transfer, check in, reset

Allow roughly 45 minutes for the move from airport mode to city mode. Do not squeeze in a supermarket stop tonight.

Late

Dinner at McDonald's Imperial Aliados

Go to McDonald's Imperial Aliados at Praça da Liberdade 126 if you still need food. It is about 20 minutes on foot from the accommodation, or 5 to 10 minutes by Bolt or Uber.

Check the listing before leaving. This is the least fussy late-food option.
9:00

Breakfast

Choose Lazy Breakfast Club for a filling brunch, or spend less at a cafe near Trindade or Bolhão.

Easy startCoffee first
10:15

Supermarket snack run

Go to Continente Bom Dia Sá da Bandeira or a central Pingo Doce near Bolhão or Sá da Bandeira.

  • Buy water, fruit, crisps, pastries, cereal bars, nuts, chocolate, and Douro tour snacks.
  • Carry the heavier things back before the rest of the day starts.
11:00

Rua de Santa Catarina and pastel de nata

Walk Santa Catarina, stop at Manteigaria, then look for small gifts around Santa Catarina, Bolhão, and Rua das Flores.

13:00

Lunch at Mercado do Bolhão

Use this as the low-pressure lunch stop: chicken, vegetarian plates, fish or prawns, pastries, juices, and snacks.

14:30

São Bento and Porto Cathedral

Walk to São Bento Station, then uphill to the cathedral. Give the cathedral and viewpoints 45 to 60 minutes.

16:00

Ribeira, then cross to Gaia

Walk down to Ribeira and take the riverside slowly. Around 17:00, cross the lower deck of Luís I Bridge and wander along Cais de Gaia.

18:30

Gaia Cable Car

Take the cable car one-way up to Jardim do Morro. Early June hours are listed around 20:00, so do not leave this to the last minute.

20:15

Sunset at Jardim do Morro

Arrive early, sit down, take photos, and watch the light change around the 21:00 sunset. Afterwards, cross the upper deck back towards Porto.

21:30

Duello, then Thamel

Keep Duello to around 45 or 50 minutes so dinner does not feel rushed. Book Thamel for 22:30 and confirm the kitchen will still serve a full dinner.

  • Best choices: chicken curry, momos, paneer or vegetarian dishes, rice, naan, noodles.
  • Repeat the food note: Não comemos porco nem vaca.
07:30

Breakfast and snack check

Eat early near the accommodation or use the supermarket snacks. Bring water and a few easy things to eat on the bus.

9:15

Douro Valley tour

Arrive at the meeting point by 9:00. Lunch is included, but message the provider in advance about no pork or beef, one seafood eater, and one non-seafood eater.

Do this before the tour day. It is much easier than negotiating lunch when everyone is already seated.
19:15

Approximate return

Tours can run late. Check the drop-off point and go straight back if you need a quick shower or change before dinner.

20:00

Dinner at Muti

Book Muti for 20:00, but be ready to call if the tour returns late. Choose margherita, burrata, mushroom, vegetarian, or other non-pork and non-beef pizzas.

  • Avoid salumi, prosciutto, fiambre, and salame.
  • After dinner, keep it relaxed. The Douro day is long.
9:00

Breakfast near Lapa or Trindade

Have brunch or keep it simple with a local cafe. Do not rush out hungry just because the day looks lighter on paper.

10:30

Jardins do Palácio de Cristal

Free, leafy, and worth taking slowly. Walk from the accommodation in about 30 to 35 minutes, or take Bolt or public transport. Spend 60 to 90 minutes.

12:30

Lunch at Mercado Bom Sucesso

Walk from the gardens in around 15 to 20 minutes. It is flexible for vegetarian food, chicken, fish or prawns, and snacks.

14:00

Foz beach

Go to Praia dos Ingleses, Praia do Molhe, or Pérgola da Foz. From Bom Sucesso, expect around 20 to 35 minutes by public transport or Bolt.

  • Walk the seafront, sit by the beach, take photos, and get a drink or ice cream.
  • Leave Foz around 16:30 so there is proper time to shower and change.
18:30

Fancy dinner at Terraço do Jardim

This works well for the final night: central, good-looking, and convenient from the accommodation. Check the menu for chicken or vegetarian options for your boyfriend, and fish or prawn options for you.

After

One sensible bar stop

Because dinner is early, this is the night for drinks. Choose Bosco for garden-style drinks or The Royal Cocktail Club for cocktails.

One good drink beats a heroic final night. Friday starts early.
6:45

Leave the accommodation

Use Bolt, Uber, or a taxi to Porto Airport. The ride is usually around 20 to 30 minutes, and this is the safer choice for a 9:20 flight.

9:20

Flight

Have breakfast at the airport, or finish leftover supermarket snacks if you do not want to buy much before flying.

Airport choice

Take the easy route.

The metro is cheaper, but this flight is early enough that comfort and timing matter more. If anything slips, the taxi option gives you the most control.

Safer option: Bolt, Uber, or taxi

Leave around 6:45 to 7:00. Expect roughly 20 to 30 minutes to Porto Airport, depending on traffic and pickup time.

Cheaper backup: Metro Line E

Walk to Trindade, take Line E to the airport, and buy a Z4 Andante ticket. Allow more time than you think you need.
